Mary Ann Mollica

Bio & Expertise:‍ ‍Mary Anne Mollica has over 14 years of experience teaching math and science in New York City high schools. She holds a BS in Biophysics from the University of Scranton, a MA/MEd in Physics and d/Deaf Education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She is currently working on her EdD dissertation through Hunter College CUNY, specifically focusing on how STEM teachers can support student executive functioning and metacognitive skills for self-regulated learning in STEM problem-solving.

Throughout her classroom teaching, Mary Anne worked as an associate researcher and curriculum developer at NASA GISS. This unique mix of classroom and research experiences highlighted crucial areas of disconnect between these two arenas, most notably in problem solving and analytical thinking skills. This disconnect fueled her pursuit to not only support STEM students in their learning, but to also support STEM teachers as a Science Pedagogy Specialist for the INSPIRE program through Columbia University and CUNY. This work continued internationally when she was awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching to support educators in Vietnam.

Mary Anne founded her tutoring company, RefractEd, in 2024 as a way to combine all of these experiences into one supportive space for students.
