Kelly Wang

Bio & Expertise:‍ ‍Kelly Wang is the founder of Big Sib Tutors, an organization built on the belief that students learn best when they feel understood. As a New York City native, Kelly attended Halsey Middle School in Forest Hills before taking the notorious SHSAT to go onto Stuyvesant High School. Afterwards, she got her bachelor's in Applied Mathematics and Psychology from Stony Brook University; from there on, she went on to complete her master’s degree at Yale University in Data Science and Statistics, where she also explored childhood psychology and the applications of machine learning. During her school experience, she realized how the transition to digital platforms proved harder for students to adjust. As a result, she made "Free Covid-19 Tutoring" to help students with the adjustment to zoom classes before transitioning the company name to "Big Sib Tutors".

With over a decade of experience as a tutor, Kelly and her team have worked closely with over 500 students across a wide range of academic levels from kids who are entering kindergarten to adults who are returning back to school. Through these experiences with countless families, they developed a teaching framework called "EMM", Empathetic Mentorship Model, which encourages curiosity to ask questions and pursue academic difficulties with confidence.

Kelly is passionate about building meaningful mentor-student relationships and cultivating a team of tutors who not only excelled academically, but also understand firsthand the demands of competitive academic environments like New York City. Their motto: we teach others the ways we wished we were taught growing up.

Outside of her work, she enjoys classical music, singing, and video production.

Location: NYC across areas of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens

Fun Fact: I grew up singing classical pieces!
